Sunday's Kitchen Fun

So as you can see from all these posts we were very busy in the kitchen on Sunday. We made the stock, the asparagus and brie soup and the sticky chicken. We started cutting up the chicken at 4:30 in the afternoon and finally finished eating our sticky chicken at about 11:15pm, so it was quite the evening of cooking. Mind you we did have some time while the stock was simmering to re-pot our herbs and drink Pepsi natural which is this new pepsi made with natural sugar and real ingredients. It was really good, way better than regular pepsi, and it came in a sweet bottle.

The herb garden before

Pepsi Natural

The herb garden after. The cactus is named Moe. We've got 3 types of chili peppers, oregano, parsley and basil.

and some ambiance for eating.

Sticky Lemon Chicken

Not too many pictures for this one, as there was a lot of time just waiting for the chicken to cook through.

We started by searing the chicken in a little bit of hot oil with garlic

The chicken starting to cook but slowly, so in the mean time we made the sides

Mashed potatoes using the closest thing we had to a masher - they turned out amazingly smooth considering

The chicken simmering with the honey, sherry vinegar, parsley and lemons

The reduced sauce - nice and sticky, and the last of the asparagus roasted with salt and pepper

The sauce was deliciously lemony and went nicely over the potatoes and asparagus and the chicken was nice and juicy from cooking in all that liquid.

Sticky Lemon Chicken Recipe

After our knife skills class, we were looking for a recipe that used chicken so that we could practice jointing one. Having had such a success with Gordon Ramsay's Beef Wellington recipe (see earlier posts) we took a look for one of his chicken recipes. We found a video for Sticky Lemon Chicken which looked pretty straight forward and tasty and decided to try that. It turned out pretty well, although the directions in the video varied quite abit from the recipe directions and we ended up cooking it a lot longer than he did in the video to make sure we didn't have raw chicken. A lot of the comments on the recipe seemed to say the same thing, so we didn't worry too much. We also made mashed potatoes (using a spatula as a masher) and roasted asparagus with it.
